I was thinking about installing an aftermarket dvd/nav system in my '96 LS400 and I called up the Metra company because they have a new double din dash kit available. The mechanic I spoke to told me that on any LS400 from at least '95 on, you have to re-wire the entire car to use any aftermarket stereo. IS THIS TRUE? It seems like many people in this forum have just used a wiring harness and hooked right into the OEM speakers. WHat am i missing???

Completely untrue. Now, I'm not sure if there is an aftermark wire harness for the UCF20/21, but if there isn't you just have to tap the right wires. I did that on my 99. I installed an Alpine IVA-310, removed the stock Nakamichi amp, and kept the stock speakers. I didn't use the stock sub though. I was planning on changing the sub and using a dedicated sub amp, but I never got around to it and I returned everything back to stock since the car should be sold in late January.
