I see you are in Mass. so your car must have a Calif emission setup...Born on the West Coast i guess.

well i guess my question now is, the x pipe is hallow allowing more flow, and the oem Y cat pipe isnt hallow allowing for more backpressure. would my car b fine with what the Mustang guys call "catless Xpipe" or should i get a cat like x or y pipe for more backpressure?

a normal non-cat x/y pipe will be fine.

I don't believe so. The car was purchased new in MA... Massachusetts often follows close behind CA when it comes to environmental reg's. I can only assume that this is the reason for it having the CAT on the end of the Y pipe here in MA...

Interesting....But Mass. following Calif rules 18 years ago? Recent regs might apply but you think that many years ago Mass was on board?

I don't know... I know the history of the car from day one though because I know the original owner. They bought it back in 1991 at a local dealership here in MA.

Maybe someone can throw additional light on this subject..also what would be the drawback (if any) to swapping the original front pipe with cat with a pipe that has a resonator?

So if you live in a state that has no emission testing or less strict than Calif you can just replace the pipe with w/o the cat and who would complain? The car already has 2 cats how much more reduction will be achieved by the 3rd cat? just postulating here

Hey guys,
Quick question:
I had my starter replaced not too long ago on my 2LS, and ever since the mechanic took my intake manifold off, as well as that skinnier copper/brass looking pipe off the back of the intake manifold, I've been having this "traktor-like' exhaust leak coming from somewhere around the back of my motor. I did some self-testing, I had my gf sit in the car and give it small squirts while I was under the car, and none of the fitted exhaust components/gaskets seem to be leaking. I was wondering if anyone did a DIY on replacing, maybe fixing that smaller pipe which seems to be leading up from the manifolds to the intake/upper head assembly.
Thx for the help in advance

Often you have to "feel" a small exhaust leak to find it. I find the back of my hand works especially well. Wave my hand over and around the exhaust components and when I feel the hair on my hand move Ive found it.

That's the egr pipe I I'm understanding you correctly.
