Weird engine vibration, Serp belt related... i think
Hey yall! I hope everybody's cars are doing ok.
I have a problem with a friend of mines LS400.
Ok her tensioner pulley went bad so she got a replacement from autozone. Autozone's part didn't fit correctly (didnt spin) and overheated the serp belt. So we replaced the pulley with a used OEM one and replaced her belt as well.
I checked all the pulleys and fan bracket. All move smoothly. But the engine feels strained and for some reason there is lots of vibration.
So i wanted to make sure the engine is ok and removed the serp belt and started the car. Smooth as butter(lexus smooth)
I put the belt back on and vibration is back! all the pulleys move fine!
I'm thinking the tensioner could be going bad. Mainly because her boyfriend put the austozone pulley and it started seizing to the point where it stopped spinning (for two days!... maybe). So maybe it put a ton of stress on the tensioner and wore it out and now its either too tight or not tight enough?
Another possibility is the belt might be marginally bigger or smaller since its not OEM Toyota (cheapo autozone brand) and causing the vibration?
Anybody got some insight?
Is the tensioner easy to take off?
