gas prop strut hood support replacement ebay 1990 ls400
I bought a set of replacement gas props off ebay last week. They are part # 612019 the brand is tuff support. They appear to be the proper length, but they are too strong for the hood. It comes up too fast and is difficult to close. Also when the hood is closed and latched the hood is bowed upwards. The angle of the attachments is wrong as well so they easily come off the ball. They were advertised as fitting the 1990-1994 ls400 lexus.
ebay seller: partsavenue
Just so no one buys these and expects them to work.
These are pics of what the hood looks like after I removed the aftermarket props-the hood was bent and I am pretty upset.
These are pictures of the aftermarket props attached and you can clearly see the hood is bent.
For a 1990 my car is in excellent condition inside and out I would not have installed these if I knew I was going to damage the hood.

Nothing I can do about the strut itself being to powerful but I think I do have the solution to the upper clamp not fitting on the ball joint.
My mechanic noticed this same problem with the Napa replacements. The ball joint you are talking about needs to come passed 90 degrees. I ordered 5 pair of replacement ball joints that will facilitate this. The ball is a slightly longer distance from the bolt allowing the attachment head more pivot room. I will let you know how they turn out.
Ordering 10 cost me about the same as ordering 2.
