Default How hard is it to change your own lowering springs?

At my Refrigeration company, we have an on duty mechanic that does all the maintenance on work vehicles. He also races and works on late models and sprints for dirt tracks. Im in good relation with the guy, just wondering if he is capable of working on a Lexus, when all day he is working on mostly domestic work vans and pickups? Would you trust someone that normally doesnt work on too many imports to do your work?

But most importantly guys, could I do this myself with a spring compressor? Have any of you done this yourself?

ive done mine like 2-3 times now, the worst part, in all honesty is 2 thing.
-taking apart the rear seat to get to the rear spring mounts.
-in the front, taking off the upper balljoint, and in the back, angling the shock body so you dont have to pop the balljoint.

its not THAT bad, you are only taking out 3 things, the seat bottom, the seat back, and then removing, (or just tilting up) the rear parcel shelf.

The rear seat was and is the worst part of the job for me I rented a pitman arm puller and spring compressor from Autozone for $0 and like Pure said it takes a few hours. I have done mine twice now.

i concur, the back seat is the worst part!
otherwise, i can do the fronts in about 10 minutes per side. the rears take about 30 minutes per side. i don't pop anything else apart though, i just work it out of the holes.
i do have the advantage of being a lexus tech and using the shop for my own car though!
i'm sure your guy can do it.

Backseat was pretty bad for me... and the swinging of the rear strut just right so it can come out. All in all, not a difficult project if you have the right tools on hand and a good amount of time.

Also, for the fronts, my friend and I just unbolted the upper control arm instead of playing with the ball joint.
