Default New member Intro - 96 LS400

I've been lurking for about a month (coincidentally, I bought my LS about...a month ago, hmmm). Actually, I've had several PM conversations with members about suspension, wheels, and leather seats (for my Suburban, but someday for the LS, no doubt). All very helpful.

I've taken the plunge and installed 18" wheels from a GS430, clear bumper lights, and KYB shocks & Addco sway bar (neither installed yet, still debating H&R springs, plan on doing all at once). I posted "Before and After" pictures last night in this forum (I think). I also posted a riveting expose about non-OEM lug nuts (the results, might surprise you! Tune in at 11 for the full story).

I love the car and frankly, one of the reasons I bought it was because they are so reliable. So hopefully, I won't be posting lots of stuff about all the repairs I've made and what I've learned. It does have 95k miles though, so it will need some stuff at some point (another 200k miles, right?) I fear however that the more I read, the more I am drawn to the siren call of "further upgrades".... (where is the best place to get those H&R springs ?)

Bob

FWIW, here are pic's: http://bcindc.smugmug.com/gallery/3700307#211978115

And, I am selling the original wheels & tires, which are posted in the classified forum.

Welcome to CL... you cant lose with a 2nd gen. A few members with the same color have switched over to monotone, gave the car a much updated look. Be sure to check out the results.

Where in VA are you by the way? Im in Vienna (fairfax area).

I really want those 18's for my GS... beautiful wheels. What size tires did you go with?

Thanks for sharing

I'm in Sterling. The tires are 235/50's. BFG KDWS', which seem to handle well, but are not quite as quiet, or smooth as the older tires (but then again, it may be the 16" to 18" rather than the tires, so..). They are slightly larger than the original tires, but speedo was about 1 mph overstated before, now almost dead on, maybe 1/2 mph understated.

The wheels were $600 incl s&h on eBay (which was a good deal, I've seen them for $550, but usually they are more).

The tires are/were on clearance (this size only for some reason) at TireRack for $82 each, I believe ($350 shipped, w/out Road Hazard).

Looks good Bob - thanks for the pic link - Like the green color Yes, the LS is very reliable. Prepare to drive it for many years with little to no worries.
