Default 99 LS400 with 18"AME Shallen LX

Well, on a whim I decided to throw on these rims to help the sale of my car. My friend carries AME as well as other rims and these were just sitting around his showroom. I originally bought 19" Work KF rims to go on the LS, but I decided to put the LS up for sale, so I stopped the project dead. Couldn't sell the Work KF rims because of the odd size 19X9.5 +45 front and 19X10.5 +45 rear. Most of the potential buyers just didn't want to mess with modifying their car to make these fit. Anyway, I turned it in for credit and bought these AME rims.

The rims are 18X9 +45 front running 225/40/18 General Exclaim UHP, and the rear is 18X10 +45 running 245/40/18.

I think the rims match the LS body style pretty well, but now the car definitely shows how bad it needs a drop. Here is the dilemma. My eye and pride says I need to drop this car. Maybe just some simple drop springs. My wallet says this car is for sale, so don't spend anymore money on it. The ironic thing is I have a brand new set of Airrunner air suspension for this car, but that is for sale at my friend's shop. I won't spend the money to install it as I rather have the money back since that was quite a bit of money. Also, if I drop the car, it may appeal to buyers that are looking to get a small head start on a VIP project car, but it also may turn away normal buyers who might just be looking for a good used LS. Oh, well. Here is a picture I took today. Kind of looks like I have air and on the high setting

If you feel the gut to sell it, then do it.. No need to spend more money on it, those rims looks wayyy better than stock and you might sell it quicker to someone who doesn't want a modified LS.

The rims look nice on the car - Doesn't really need to be dropped for the regular buyer. Any of us though would say to drop it. Springs are cheap and easy to change yourself in a morning. You can rent the spring compressor and pitman arm puller from AutoZone for no money out of pocket.

If you are selling the car I would take off the rims and put them back to stock. That would appeal to a much wider market. Plus I really don't like those rims, sorry, the tires don't look wide enough for the rims and they just don't look right on the car.

However, if you like the wheels and want to keep the car, then I would lower it.

Dropping the car should be easy enough. I have my own spring compressor and enough tools to do the job

The KFs are gone already. Sorry. As for getting another LS? Not sure. I'm selling because the car is just a little too large for my wife to drive. She can drive it, but getting in an out of her tight parking garage at work is tricky. We ended up getting a 2002 BMW 330i with sports package with 20K miles on it for her to drive. I no have three cars so one has to go. It is kind of a sell it if it sells and don't worry about it if it doesn't. If I get my asking price or close to it I'll sell it. If not, I'll just keep it for sale an wait it out, or keep it if I only get low ballers

I kind of agree. These are rims I personally would never have bought, although I don't mind them at all. I would have gone at least 19 or 20 myself. This is a calculated gamble for me. The VIP style is really big here in Hawaii. The AME rims are also very popular so hopefully it appeals to some. Also, the VIP stretched tire fitment is popular and everyone that builds a VIP Style Lexus does it that way here. That was one of the reasons for going with this set up. Me personally, I would have run 245s up front and 275 or 285s in the rear

My gamble is this may appeal to the VIP Style crowed that wants to get into the market, but if not, I still have the stock rims to throw back on, and these rims should be easier to sell by itself than my Work KFs which were really wide and wasn't a direct fitment for most cars.

I think you should put the stockers on and sell those on ebay.

Anyone who is into VIP knows that those offsets are horribly conservative. They are too conservative for my FWD car. Not to mention 18s and no drop makes the car look pretty bad.

VIP is not about wheel offset

Those offsets are fine, the wheels actually fit the car...
