Really strange problem (bug between plastic and LCD screen '99)
Hello all,
After 2 Benzes, and three BMW's, I bought a 1999 LS as a second car today. Very happy so far with it, I got an incredible price on it, and it even has the nav. system. The stereo is okay, I thought it would be better, but so what.
Okay, here is my strange problem: There is a small dead bug sitting in front of where the clock display is, between the outer clear cover, and the clock display lens. Is there a way to remove the outer clear cover covering the clock display, below the center vents???

I have been following various Lexus forums for a number of years and I do not remember a thread where someone opened up the HVAC control unit on a 98-00 LS400 -- doesn't mean you won't find one if you search.

Thank you both for the replys, It's going to the dealer for an alignment, and trans fluid flush, mybe they can free the dead bug. I can't see how he got in there in the first place.

Very funny!!
But I wonder if he got in at the factory???? I went to my local dealer, and they said the panel is glued and cannot be taken apart, so they said there is nothing I can do. I wonder if I sent a picture to Lexus in Japan, what they would say?
By the way, what's up with "Driver School Candidate???

Depending on how handy you are - you might be able to blow some compressed air in there to at least move it around - and hopefully out of view.
Your best bet is to remove the climate control unit and blow some air into some of the little holes around the side of the unit. I really don't know what the back of the unit looks like, but I figure there has to be some holes somewhere, I doubt it's completely air tight.
If you're using an air compressor for air powered tools, just don't have it cranked up too high. 10 or 20 psi would probably do the trick.
Heck - at this point, if you have the unit removed, you might be able to just shake it like an etch-a-sketch and get that little sucker to move out of the way.

It couldn't have gotten in at the factory. No one would have bought the car if there was just a bug chillen in the Radio unit, possibly flying around. He probably found a hole in the glue somewhere.

I don't have a bug, in my 1991 LS400 clock/temp control. What I do have is a digital read out of the panel where the numerals are blurred. The whole panel is getting dark. Anyone else with that problem? Do I have to replace the control panel? Can this be done by me a fairly competent weekend backyard mechanic type.
