Default Cluster Needle Going Dark '90

Cluster works fine on my 90 LS400 but the speedometer needle is starting to darken from the tip up an inch or so...Is the cure just replacing the needle? And is it user replaceable? Thanks!

theres a sticky, the dimming is caused by the paint chipping off the needle.

Default Jim Walker's Forte...

Research leads me to believe the needles that go dark can be re-coated..I wonder if it makes sense to pull the cluster just to resolve the 1 needle problem as the car is 17 years old and other cluster issues will show up eventually so perhaps the best course of action would be to wait and have all issues repaired at the same time. Thoughts anyone?

I think that's for him to decide. If it's just a matter of a conductive material breaking, then it may be possible to repair it with a conductive paint, although this is purely speculative.

Default I can live with it..

It's just that i like everything perfect in this wonderful car that just hit 240K Hate to spend the time/money/energy to repair just the needle so i'll probably let it ride until additional problems arise and then spend the $250 or so for the total repair.
