When does your gas light come on?
When does your low gas light come on in your LS? Mine comes on alittle above the 1/4 mark. I thought that seems little high, my other cars dont come on until they are right near the E mark.

Well, I have the instrument cluster issue on my 93 so the gas guage always reads empty. The sending unit is obviously still functioning, though, because the light still comes on. The fuel tank on a 93 holds 22.5 gal. When I fill the tank right after the light comes on it consistently takes ~18.5 gal. So the low fuel indication occurs with ~ 4 gallons remaining in the tank. Equates to a little less than 1/5 of a tankful.

letting your fuel tank run low
When you let your fuel tank run below 1/4 tank you expose your fuel pump to the air which makes it run hot. The tech's at the lexus school of repair said always fill your tank when you get to 1/4 tank to help keep your fuel pump running cool in the fuel. Also dont forget to change the fuel filter around 50,000 miles for safety in case you happen go get dirty fuel at sometime. I also run the K&N airfilters in my 91 ls400 and got 2-4 miles per gallon better fuel mileage. I also use mobil one synthetic oil 5-30 to help the mileage and also flushed the transmission and use the mobil one synthetic transmission fluid and change it every 40-50,000 miles. I know some people say to use the type 4 toyota/lexus trans fluid which is also good I need to get 300-400,000 miles out of this car my friend ran his 91 ls400 to 568,000 miles with the same trans and motor. I also use the mobil one trans fluid for the power steering it should last 300,000 miles as it has in the past cars I own all toyota's. I an now using new mobil one extended 15000 mile engine oil which l

My gas light comes on when the needle hits E, on the line.
I've found that the needle goes slightly and slowly up and down around the quarter mark for a while, then tends to drop quickly to the E mark. And it's not just this car... my 91 Camry does the same as well.
