Default How sensitive is your TC lockup?

I'm trying to see if my TPS is out of adjustment or if I'm just imagining things. My torque converter will lockup when it should (around 40mph in ECT norm) but is extremely sensitive to throttle pressure. If I have light throttle, it will lockup and unlock very often as I modulate the throttle to maintain my speed. That's the one problem I have with the TC lockup in these cars- once it locks up it takes less throttle to maintain a given speed due to the increased efficiency, making it necessary to let off of the throttle to stay at 40-45mph. By doing this, the torque converter is continually locking up and unlocking as I am on and off the throttle, even just lightly on the throttle in order to maintain my desired speed. I'm curious to see if my fellow LS400 owners, both generation I and generation II cars, experience the same issue and please state the year of your car with your reply. Please don't bother responding if you have a 98-2000 LS400 as the throttle setup is completely different (ECT) as well as the transmission being a newer AW 5 speed unit. TIA!

now that you mention it i have the same problem, i drive a 90 LS400... maybe its normal.. but i cant help you as i didnt even know it was the torque converter, thanks!

It is a viscous process by which the tranny fluid "locks" the input and outputs of the tranny, so that the driveline is connected fully to the output from the engine rather than allowing slipping (which is how an A/T doesn't cause the engine to stall when in gear at a stop).

THis is the problem I have with my car, and I didn't have it before. It onyl showed up after cleaning the TB, which leads me to believe that I need to adjust my TPS.
