turbosix: please share what symptoms you were having before you got in there to discover it was shot--great diagnostic reference for those who may have to address this bushing in the future!

the symptom for this is a hollow rattling sound coming from the rear of the car during low speed braking. the problem is amplified if you are slowing down on an uneven or bumpy section of road.

i was removing the calipers and the caliper brackets to do brakes the other day and noticed when re-torquing the caliper brackets, the whole assembly shifted quite a bit. i looked underneath and bingo.... no bushings left! i could see light shining through where the rubber should have been. i will fix this later this week so if you guys want i can take some pictures

They are called rear axle carrier bushings and lpd auto sells them for like $36 per side. The good thing is that the rubber is missing now...All you have to do is get a sawsall and cut through the metal ring left in there, careful not to cut all the way through. Get a hammer and a strong flat head screw driver and hammer it out, then you are ready to install the poly ones (easy). Do the trailing arm bushing while your at it, peice number 9 in your diagram. You can do it yourself. You rear will feel solid after and no noise. Check lexls.com

Some pics of trailing arm for example. BTW, I had my neighbor push these out with a hydrolic press that he has at his work.
