Question 1990 LS400 Braking System

This is not always the case, but lately it has been occurring more often:

When I press the brake, the orange [R] for reverse turns on in the dashboard.

FYI: My parking brake is not on and I am not throwing the transmission into reverse when I'm braking.

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

One or more wires going to the taillights is broken. It's a common occurance. Search and ye shall find.

x2. it should be easy to find. crawl on your back in the trunk, loosen the plastic shroud from the harnes right at the trunk hinges and look for a broken wire.
