Default 94 LS Slow to come off the line. Sometimes.

Hey.. have a 94 LS400 with 180K on it. Engine runs great, recently had new TB, plugs wires done by Lexus.

Sometimes the car comes off the line slowly.. almost feels like it is starting in 2nd gear, other times it launches quickly... and pulls strongly to redline. I have tried putting it in low gear to make sure it is in 1st gear. This makes no difference.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ken

My car does the same thing. Replacing ignition coils and spark plugs helped a bit, but even still... its slow. Just have to accept it.

I've noticed that the car always feels much quicker in cold weather.. which leads me to believe it might be something to do with the MAF, or the O2 sensors.. but neither of them are throwing CELs. I suppose replacing the O2 sensors won't take too much time, and the cost isn't prohibitively expensive.. but the MAF sure is.

O2 sensors are a bit pricy, even for Non-OEM ones. and the ls400 has 2 of them. i was quoted $300 for both for BOSCH ones from the local Autozone.

I thought it would yield better performance, but if its not broke, I don't intend to fix it.

you have to know more that just when plugs and wires were done

how about caps and rotors?
igniters? check resistance on those

it may be tranny related, it may be leaky vac hose somewhere

thanks for the info, when they checked, it said my 93 only needed two. damn 4 of them would cost around $600 then.

Yeah, I have a whole thread on it, done numerous things to try and solve it, and still no cigar. Probably going to invest into a SAFC fuel computer, and have it dyno tuned.

I think Suneet has hit the nail on the head, this is an issue with the condition of your karman vortex sensor and quite correctly again when he concluded that it is pricey!!

MAF operation can be checked by supplying power & a ground , a volt meter to the VG wire and blowing air thru the sensor.

proceed with Caution if you undertake this endeavor!!

Keep in mind that 4.0 1UZ = not a mountain of low-end torque.

come one guys, the LS just is heavy and isnt fast off the line. Poor gearing for that kind of performance. It is quick just not fast.

There is a major difference in power between the generations. I drove a 93 LS400, a 97, and 98-99.

The first generation lagged so much compared to my first 98 LS400. I was getting too ancy waiting on 60 to arrive, which it felt like I was in a 4cylinder.

The 97 was exceptionally fast, much better than the 93 I drove, but still no rocket. You could take on the normal cars you see everyda with it.

The 98-99 Both I owned, were the quickest ones. The 98 I could have sworn was faster than my 99 though. These are almost identically the same in power with the LS430, maybe even a bit faster. 01-03 at least.
