Rust!! only one spot. how bad?
hi all,
my otherwise pristine 92 ls has shown it's first sign of rust on the DS rear wheel lip. slight bulge below paint and you can feel it under the lip, too. only place on the whole car. i go thru the underbody every year and retouch w/ undercoat, etc... it was a mainland FL car for 10 yrs, but now OH salt apparently got to it.
should i fix? is there any other way besides body shop, etc..?
thanks.
jc

You can also use POR-15 - it can be had at an Goodguys show or a auto body supply shop. But it does need to be coated over with an epoxy sealer like PPG's DP40LF primer and then refinished like usual.

got estimate for $350-$400 WITHOUT taking off bumper. thi is to cut it out, weld in, paint/clear it. to take off bumper- another $100 or so.
also, very interesting--- they said to take off the lower wheel well guards- that's probably what caused salty dirt/mud/water to be held up in there to rust in the first place. i took them off this morn, and they were filled w/ dirt/crud. they DO protect against stone chips, but if you undercoat the bottom of the well and check every year, you'll be fine. mine are off for good. looks cleaner, too. said honda's/toyotas are known for causing rust in these.
