Fuel/Gas smell on cold morning...
Hi guys,
I have a 93 LS. On cold morning/day with a cold engine, when I start up my car, there is a very strong fuel/gas smell all over the places. The strong smell also penetrated into the cabin. This problem happened every winter. There were no smell - or too little that I can smell on start up during the warmer months. I took my car to Lexus dealer a few times to complain about fuel smell but they did not find anything wrong. On one visit, I can't believe they told me that this is normal on my car. Any suggestion and any body experiences this problem? Thanks.

The reason why you get the strong gas smell in the colder months is that your computer dumps a richer air/fuel mixture to get your engine to fire in colder temps because your spark plugs ignite the vapor of gasoline and when the temp is cold the gas does not evaporate as fast as it does in warmer weather, so, hence more gas is dumped by your computer to the injectors to create more gas vapor to burn and when the temp of the motor reaches the right level the O2 sensors will automatically detect the hotter gas and begin to lean out the air fuel mixture. So you are naturally going to smell a strong gas smell because of all that rich gasoline being pumped to the engine, and it isnt burning effeciently and lots of unburned gasoline is coming out your tail pipe.
