The following link has been posted lots of times - it is for a 95-97 LS but the procedure is the same for a 98-00: http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereor...sLS400str1.htm
Be aware that the center vents are very fragile and expensive to replace if you break them. It the vent parts fall apart when you remove them, pay attention to how they fit together and you can put them back together.
Once you figure out how to remove the radio it is very easy. I've done it 3-4 times while changing the phone configuration in my 00 LS and I can do it in about five minutes.

I'll take some pictures later, but at least on my 99, so I would assume it is the same for the 98-00, to remove the center vent you don't have to pry. I had to retaining clips on the sides of the vent. If you stick a flat head screwdriver between the vent slots on the slide, there is a slot in the retaining clip. Move that clip toward the middle (Best if you get two screwdrivers so you can do both sides at once). Once the clip releases you can slide the center vent out.
I followed the tutorial the first time and the vent came apart, but as I was putting it all back together I found the retaining clips and how they work.
