Default Infiniti Q45

I just was in a friend's 2001 Q45. That's a very nice car that might be competitive with the LS. I gotta check the specs, but it seems that car may be larger than the LS. Don't ge me wrong, I love my LS but that Q looks impressive

They look nice and go fast, and can be bought pretty cheaply. They're also very luxurious. So what's the downside?
They have a lot of quality and reliability issues.

Yeah I like them as well. However they are not nearly as reliable as the LS. If you mod both and put them side by side they are both killer rides. I just don't want to fix the car man. That's why I choose the LS.

yea, the Q is a good bit cheaper than the LS (most infiniti have ishty resale values) and can make a lot of power fairly easily compared to the LS (massive nissan mod-base and parts bin).

but i like to drive my car more than i like to fix stuff thats broken.

I never like the 2nd gen (1997-2001) Q45's. It looks like a stretched maxima. I really like the first gen (1992-1996), and the third gen (2002-2007)

Only 2 things that really stand out for me on the Q45 are the throttle body (opens up some useful applications in other vehicles) and the projectors.

I drove a 2001 Q45 in summer 2003 just before I bought a 2000 LS400. I think it had a "t" after the model name, i.e. Q45t

The 01 Q45 had about 75K miles on it and it was obvious that it had not been taken care of. Some of the controls seemed cheaply made and not appropriate for a car of its class. But it sure was a blast to drive - almost BMW 5-series-like. It handled much better than either my previous or current LS and it had all sorts of nifty features like the power rear window shade.

But then I paid almost $11,000 more for my 2000 LS400 which, oddly, was manufactured after the 01 Q45 I was looking at.

The 00 LS400 is more my style. Also the 01 Q45 seemed to have substantially less rear leg room. But the Q sure was fun.

I don't know about the 2nd gen Q45, but the first gen Q45 had four wheel steering. I think current M35/45 has that. It also had some other feature, can't remember which one, that is very rare.

the 97-01 q45s are extremely reliable the 1st gen qs are reliable too but in their older age their maintanance cost is a bit steep. the '02 and up q45s have a few problems and a small number of them are having oil consumption problems with their 4.5l v8

the 97-01 qs are very comparable to the ls but the ls kicks *** in the interior quality/attention to detail

not to mention the addition of vvti and the 5spd auto made the 98+ LS alot quicker than the 97-01 q

I'd considered a '04 and relative to an LS430 of the time...the Lexus was IMO nicer all around. The trunk is that year Q is the same size as in the 2-LS...which is smallish. Otherwise, I thought it nice and it is pretty unique on the roads. Would I buy one...probably not.

The years in the OP, I do like.

I had a 90Q and it was pretty nice, right until you had to fix it. 6 coolant hoses at the dealer cost me almost $300. An oem thermostat ran me $35 plus tax.

The 97 body Q was an attempt to please those that liked the benz styling and the LS plushness but it never really got over that hump. The 4 wheel HICAS steering was an option that was relatively useless anyway. The Q45T consisted of thicker sway bars and a bit stiffer springs. The other option was the Q45A, this model had the first production active suspension that is now found in some newer model cars. It was an impressive feature, but beware repairs on it. Rehabbing a Q45A could cost atleast $3k easily.

Where did you hear that? I had 2 Infiniti's in the past and I have one now. I've been to the dealerships enough to have heard or seen if there were reliability issues. As yet, I have heard nothing.

Bingo. Not only that, the 2nd gen is not really a Q45, but a Q41. The V-8 went from 4.5 liters to 4.1 but NIssan didn't change the name.

I had a thread in car chat about the last gen and 1st gen M45, I mean they are great used cars to buy.
