Default RX300 Shifter on 1LS...

Well, my shifter is looking pretty ratty and old, and I was thinking of replacing it.

I've seen the Levoc, but I don't think I'm interested in going that route.

I did search and found this thread.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...=RX300+Shifter

Has anyone here tried an RX300 shifter on a 1LS? Is that what is shown on the pictures on that thread?

I have a 92 and don't like having the O/D button on the front, I would like it where the 94 and up have theirs.

Also, some have mentioned the Devil's brand shifter, but I've never seen a pic of one...

Thanks in Advance.

-A

Yeah I saw those, looks too "game -joystick-like" for me, plus the Wood is a little off.

I'm going to visit my local Lexus wrecking yard and see what I can find...just wanted to see if any brave souls tried this yet...

you realize that none of those (incl. the fabulous one pictured) will work w/o bypassing the shift lock (lotta custom work and EXTREMELY dangerous) right....

theres a reason all the ones in the pics are on cars w/gated shifters, we dont have to push a button to release the lock. on a none-gated shifter thats pretty dangerous since the lightest tap will send the shifter into a potentially trans. harming gear.

garson iirc makes one for the 1x LS but not sure.

Id be happy to show you when its on buddy boy.

back on topic though, im sure the rx shifter will work fine for you. I am doing alittle bit of fabbing but its nothing more than adding my own button. Not really that hard to do imo.

oh dont get me wrong, i dont mean to discourage you.

id like to see it on, in fact if u need any help (although i know little that is 1LS specific) feel free to hit me up. im just very interested in how you plan on working around the shift lock system. (i have a 91 camry that would love a proper ****, stupid button pisses me off )

be sure to post a tut so other people can see how too

I'm sure PD meant well, B. Of course, we all know he secretly wished he owned a 1LS as well

Or was that me want a 2LS, I forget...

Love the pictures. I'm going to visit that Lexus junkyard and see how much I can pick up an RX300 shifter for...does anyone think ALIGA has any?

Definitely "feelin it" on this one. I just wish it was a lot cheaper than what's on Ebay.

Default Well I got one...

...and decided to try and mount it today.

Running into three known issues so far:

1) the shift mechanism spring on my 92 LS400 is spring loaded from the top, while the RX300 has the spring built into the shift mechanism stem from the bottom. So I need to figure out how to pop that baby in there.

2) The shifter stem on the RX300 shifter is a lot longer than the LS400. In order to use the shift ****, I need to use the RX300 shift stem.

3) The assembly housing of the RX300s is a little bit smaller than the LS400s.

Looks good overall, but taking up time as I have yet to figure out how to remove the stem from assembly, add the spring to the bottom of the stem, and make it fit the shaft.

The only easy thing in this whole venture so far is the overdrive button.
