Smile 1st Lex (95 LS) What do I need to know. Please help

Just bought my first Lex. Its a 1995 LS 400 with 172,000 in Mint condition. I had a Acura Legend for a while but I dont know anything about the LS, other than they are expensive to maintain. However, I love the car, I'm on cloud 9 right now. I have not register the car yet. I like to know what should I do first as far as maintanence and what are some of the the things that I should keep an eye on for future reference. Thanks in advance. I'm sure I will be gettign to know manny of you, like I said, I'm on cloud 9. What a MACHINE.

I'll let the people after me help you, but they are not expensive to maintain quite the opposite. You will soon love lexus and will never go back

As far as maintenance goes, the timing belt should be done every 90k miles. So you should be due soon. Most also replace the water pump at the same time along with cam and crank seals. Another thing you might want to do is flush your power steering system and clean the solenoid on the rack. This is good maintenance for power steering issues these cars are prone to.

Here's a link to the P/S flush tutorial:

But your best friend is the search button on this forum, lots of good stuff here!

Congrats on the new LS!

Default New 95 LS

Thank for all of the info. One thing I did not do was talk to the seller in regards to maintanance records. I was do happy about gettigna good deal I overlooked it.

To do all of this things will probably cost a few bucks. What do you think I should takle first without waiting. Eventually I know i will spend a lot of money in the car, I really like it. It will be a secondary car, so I can take my time in pampering it. thanks

I know everyone says these cars should have their timing belt/water pump replaced at 90k miles. What about a car that is 11 yrs old (96') but only has 47k miles?? Can I wait until it reaches 90k miles (could take about 5 yrs) or does it need to be done sooner??

See if you can obtain the service records from the seller, if not you can check with the dealer and have them pull what they have so you can see where you're at.

I would flush your fluids at a minimum. Coolant, Oil, Trans. Fluid, Power Steering, Brake Fluid & Differential Fluid. If you do it yourself it will be inexpensive and get you very aquainted with your car quick. The lexLS.com site provided has procedures for all mentioned above.

Thanks 1996LS400. I just went through the tutorial on lexLS.com. Crazy info about the LS. pretty much evrything, extremely helpful. This will be my new site for a while. I just register the car today an as drive it more and more, I do hear a few things and I am beginning to notice a few things.

For example. The radio had serious problems. sometimes it plays fine, and other times it shuts down, the CD changer in the glove compartment does not play and the code error 16 appears when it wants too. Sometimes the I can hear all of the speakers, other times, I can only hear one.

However, the car runs great and has crazy power. The guy I bought it from recently bought a 2007 LEX, I think it's like 80 or 90 G's. He said the car had been sitting for a while. The issues I'm noticing do not seem to be major, the car does have 172,000 and I was aware I was going to deal with some issues. The good things is this is a second car, I will take my time with it.

Thanks for everything.

Go to the service director at the dealer give hime the VIN he'll give you all the info he has..usually a lot. Lexus will take the maintainence info and add it to the cars record even if its not done by them. Bring 'em your reciepts and keep your records up to date. Thats my experince afte 3 LSs
