brake light sensor location

brake light sensor location
Does any body know where the brake sensor is located? My brake warning light (the same light that comes on when you apply the parking brake) has been going on and off randomly I'm thinking it it the sensor either wearing out or loose. YES I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID!

Which brake warning light you talking about?
As my memoery 93+ had brakes worn out indicator or the brake fluid lever sensor on the master cyclinder was having problem. Or other brake warning light for tail light you talking about? the sensor modules was on the trunk. Hope it could help.

The sensor hits the rotor when the pad wears and breaks the electrical circuit thereby triggering the warning light. Easy to change if that is what's up.

If the light is on your dash and it is a red circular shape then it means you have pads worn (it's in your manual). The two sensors on a second generation (1995 and up) are on the right rear and left front calipers (one each).

Well, the light would turn on, it would be really faint. Then one day,the light just turned on and stayed on. And all my brake lights work. The fluid is topped off, the parking break pedal spring/strut is good (goes all the way up).
Any ideas guys?

Yes, same problem. 1990 with 152m. Parking brake light stays on even when parking brake released and brake fluid level fine. Light dims but is still on. I've temporarily disconnected the brake fluid level sensor and now the light only indicates for the status of the parking brake. I just check brake fluid level frequently. My guess is I'll probably need a new sensor although they look so simple, I can't imagine what could go wrong with them.

Hmmm, when I purchased my car, the brake fluid sensor WAS d/c'd, so maybe the previous owner neglected to tell me that. I did notice that when I d/c the sensor that goes on the reservoir, that my anti-lock brake light does not turn on or indicate that it is on when key is set to ACC.
How much do these sensors run about, and is it dealer only?

As far as I can tell, the vast majority of Lexus parts are dealer only. You get a small discount at Park Place Lexus. I just bought some knock off driveshaft bushings on ebay. I guess that the size of the LS400 market is not large enough to induce parts manufacturers to dive in. I've found that Mercedes parts are far cheaper because there is a lot of competition from parts manufacturers.
Speaking about sensors, I noticed that the PO had cut the wires on the coolant level sensor. Well that's one way to turn off idiot lights!

Well, I think I've figured this out. Light comes on dimly at first, but then will go out. I noticed that if the car is going into a roll or abrupt stop, the light will turn off.
So the sensor basically measures the brake fluid level. If you unplug the wire going from the top, light goes out. Plug it in, and the Parking Light should be off (or at least on mine).
Even though the fluid level is topped off, the sensor maybe loose or worn that it is extremely sensitive.
I'm going junkyard hunting as Pick A Part probably sells this for $2-5 bucks.
