Angry Hit a road hazard !!

While driving on the freeway, the van (2 -3 car length) in front of me dropped its exhaust and did not stopped; Panicked, Braked, there was no way to avoid the beast. Luckily, no one was injured.

Damage to my 2001 LS430 Ultra :
The bumper got scratched and sort of twisted,
Fog light popped out
The lower grill got damaged, and
The laser sensor was smashed

Couldn't get hold of the van or its plates [I was expecting the exhaust to fly into the windshield]

My insurance would pay for the damage. Will see how much the parts cost.

Default Update ...

Just got my car back from the Lexus Dealers body shop. The cost for the parts appear to be reasonable except:

the biggest surprise was the cost for the Sensor Radar Cruise ($3676.06 + tax) [and the CL option, which includes a whole lot is approx $7K and UL $12K !]

When I looked at the car after the damage, it did not look bad at all:
The fog light had popped out, the bumper had a 8" scratch/dent, and if you looked carefully, the cruise radar sensor was smashed. Wish I had taken a photograph.

So fellow LS430 drivers with this option: Watch out for the road hazard.

Thanks for listening.

That's terrible, I would be so angry because the cause of the problem drove away. My dad was driving 70mph down the highway in his GMC Z71 Truck one day and was rear ended! Messed up the rear bumper and the spare tire flew off. The woman tried to get away, he didn't let her

I'll bet the person crapped in their pants when they relized they had messed up an LS430 and ran off.

Glad that you're okay and I hope the car gets repaired okay and works flawlessly

TECHNICALLY that should fall under your uninsured motorist coverage in your insurance as a hit and run.

Good luck, sorry to hear that.

Default Thanks ..

The insurance did cover it under hit&run - so my premium would not increase.

What hurt most was that the car was under 2500 miles and less than 4 months old [The first ding really hurts !!]

Thanks.

Default laer or radar

I have a 430 similarly equipped. That sure sounds high, sort of like hospital bills, and insurance. Why? Tony

Default WOW!!!

Sorry to hear that. The cost s seem crazy.

I hit a huge truck tire tread that just came off a truck in front of me a week ago and I ran over it.

Nothing seems to be damaged...........

Good Luck!!
