LS400 owners post your wheel setup

You don't have to cut the frame of the car to clearance the upper control arm. You cut a hole in the shock towers near where the coil overs are bolted up. Basically as you lower the car the top of the upper control arm approaches the inside of the shock tower and can hit it. To prevent the metal from slapping into each other (terrible sound) you simply cut a clearance hole. Some people even go so far as as to weld a metal box over the hole to reintroduce any structural integrity lost from the cutting process.

AME Shallens
F: 19x9 +25 with a 215/35
R: 19x10 +35 with a 245/35
Guards are absolutely untouched and it all JUST fits. Going to give the inner lips a slight massage but nothing serious. Front definitely needs to come down and might tweak the rear a little as well.
But pretty happy for a day's work

Offsets and widths are also not the greatest for the LS platform. Most are 9s/10s with ~30ish ET's, which are not really what most LS guys want to spend $3k+ on, with zero flexibility of adding bigger lips.
Especially not when you can get a multitude of JDM 3-piece wheels for similar or cheaper prices in widths and offsets that fit these car so much better.
i love an LM, but 19x11/12s LOW ET options do not exist under $7k... thats a bit much considering you can find nice examples of 2000 LS400s for around that price.

I currently have 225/60/16 tires on my 97 ls400 for the winter. But I plan on putting 18x8 wheels with a +32 offset. I need summer tires. But I don't know what size to go with. I used some sizemytires calculator, and i think it was recommending 255. I'd much rather go with 245's though, they're a little cheaper.
It says going to the 245's would be -3.4% different than the original, which could cause brake failure when changing more than 3%
The 255's are -2.22% different from the original
Whats up with the brake failure part, how does that work?
245's would be cool, but not if i'm trading potential brake failure for it haha
