Question Would you Buy this LS 400?

Hi Everyone, I once participated on this form with some frequency when I owned a 2000 Lexus ES 300.

I am going to look at a 1994 LS 400 tomorrow at a used car store.

Seller says the California title is clear. He indicated that he bought it at a reduced auction price because supposedly the mileage reported was not the actual mileage but he was later able to obtain a clear CA title. He has also been upfront that the car was in an accident resulting in a new paint job. The airbags were not deployed and the title is clear, not salvage.

Mileage is 125k and asking price is under 5,000. I have not yet inspected the vehicle, but assuming it checked out, would you buy it?

Here is the carfax report: http://www.carfax.com/phoenix/extern...Mg3tbDgDaCTSi3

Assuming that it passed an inspection from a Lexus dealer, I would buy the car. Of course, I would carefully inspect the repair that was done to the body, as an improper repair that involved welding could lead to rust developing inside of the car (you'd be surprised how many body shops that DO NOT use cavity wax/rust inhibitors after doing lengthy metal/sheet work. Some people pay out of their own pocket for body damage that normally an insurance company would total out, so the car would not necessarily get a salvage title.

As for the mileage, I think it's not as bad as some of the ones I've seen on carfax (some have closer to 400K on chassis, but because the odometer kept getting swapped out for one reason or another, the car is advertised as 120K miles.)

You already sound like a smart shopper. I screened through 30 LS400s before getting my 92, and I'm VERY PICKY.

As someone mentioned earlier, you dont want to pay more then $3500, considering its past, and the unknown mileage factor, which is big when you want to sell it. @ 5000, its nothing special, and i would wait around to get something better, with a better history.

It was a total piece. Obvious Maaco paint job.... silicon-ed weather stripping.. i was very disappointed in the dealer's description and let him know.

Anyone in the san diego area, the dealer was "patriot motors" in oceanside. I am speaking only of the condition of this vehicle. The owner seemed to be an ok guy overall, but really misrepresented this vehicle in my opinion.

The search continues!
