I have a friend looking for the exact same car as me and came across a 1999 LS400 with 93,000 miles on it. Looks AMAZING, white with the gold trim. They are asking 15,800 for it. It has every option minus NAv and chrome wheels. The dealer also is giving it a one million milke warranty...is it worth it for my friend to buy it?? He wants more opinions from you guys. HE wont just take my word that they are good cars.

price is a tad high, and wtf is a "1 million mile warranty"? id read the fine print on that. id say if he can get it for more like 14,500-14750 w/tax+reg id jump on it. also, does it have the A/S?

I'd say it's a reasonable price. if you can get it down as much as 1k I'd definitely go for it.

very nice LS, both of them.

Now, for the 99... they better have done the 90K service, and even then, $15.8 is high. I'd say its more worth around $13K even for the condition its in.

The car looks pretty nice. Its not my type of color, I'm more into black on black, like my current car. But i also think the price is a little too high. To get some idea of what the prices are going for that type of car, check out kbb.com and edmunds.com TMV (true market value) for your specific area. Also, go to a Lexus service center near you and ask if they'll give you a printout of the car's service history. That'll give you more reassurance if you plan on buying it...

I can tell it has heated seats which I generally have seen mainly on the more well equipted cars. It looks like it has the standard audio system instead of the Nakamichi upgrade but the standard system is pretty good and way better than the standard system in the 90 LS I used to have.

You can probably find the list of options that were available in 99 by searching this forum -- it has been posted in the past. There were about $9,000 (retail) in options available.

One thing to check is whether or not all the TSBs have been applied. It might also be interesting to know the month of manufacture and the in-service date since Lexus fixed some of the problems by the time the later 99's were built.

That price is a pretty steap, you can get a 2000 or 2001 for that kind of cheese, possibly even a LS430.

In my area a 99 LS400 with 100,000 miles is worth 16,400 according to KBB. Wish I were where you guys are.

I don't think any NEW $16,000 car can compare very well to the last LS400s. Maybe later. Reliability on these cars are outstanding.

Its a known fact that nobody really pays the retail price as per kbb. These used car dealers tack on appx. 2 to 4 grand on a car like that. You gotta play cool and be prepared to walk away if the guy does'nt play ball with your number. Don't get too emotional about that car. That's what the dealer is counting on. If you can get it for a thousand less and you have the service records, then go for it. Otherwise, I'd just wait for the next deal to roll around.
