Got a 2000 LS400 with 95k miles for $10k!
I just got a 2000 ls400 and I think the timing belt has to be changed. Can any1 tell me how long I can actually go b4 the change? Also, how much should I be charged for it? Thanx for your responses.

wow awesome deal! I think timing belts are supposed to be changed every 90k. Check up on your car because if it breaks... you are toast. Since you are new, you might want to familiarize yourself with the search tool. Most questions you have will have been answered.

timing belt
I onced had a '91 ls400 that had the timing belt break on me at +80k miles. That engin was a non-inteference type and it cost me appx. $500 to replace the belt in '97. Omarg, are you sure the 2000 ls400 is inteference type? thanx.

Welcome and congrats on your ride....I also have a 00LS. If you go to the stealer you are looking at $1000. A local shop should run you between 500-750. Make sure you do the waterpump as well. If you do a search on 90k services you will get the full breakdown on what you should replace since you have that side of the car apart. The 00LS is a solid car and I have thought about selling mine to get a SUV since I have 3 kids but can't make the move since it rides so nice. Once again good luck.

timing belt and other issues
Ok. It appears I'll have to change that timing belt soon. I'm just concerned that since the '00 is fairly new, most independant shops in my area are not that familiar in replacing the timing belt. As I'm driving the car more often now, I'm beginning to notice a few quirks such as the acceleration is a lot more sensitive than on my '94 ls. Can this be adjusted whereby more pressure has to be applied to the accelerator so that the power comes on more gradually and smoothly instead of suddenly? Also, the brakes seem to be squishy and spongy compared to my '94 ls. When applying the brakes, there is a lot more travel before actual braking occurs. I'm guessing the brakes need to be replaced or maybe more brake fluid has to be added or completely changed. The brakes on my '94 modulates better than the 00 ls. Or maybe the Brake Asisst has something to do with this? Any you guys have suggestions or any ideas?
I'm beginning to think I did'nt get such a bargain after all, lol. Once again, thanx for all your responses.

Even if you go to the dealer and pay $1500 - you're still ahead since you got such a good deal on the car. That's assuming, of course, the rest of it's in great shape too...

I think some maintenance was done by the local Lexus dealer, Bay Ridge Lexus.
However, I'm not sure exactly what was done. Maybe, some of the maintenance might have been done elsewhere. I will go there on Monday and inquire about a printout of the maintenance history. Is there a way to check the timing belt without an elaborate take off of the water pump, radiator, etc?
