Default Limited slip friction modifier / Differential Oil

Hello,

After searching I never did find an answer to the question of if the LS400 needs differential oil with LS friction modifiers or not? Can anyone answer this for me? I'm trying to change the differential oil on my '98.

I plan on using 80w90 as the book states, just wondering about friction modifiers.

Thanks,

James

An open type differential uses a GL-5 gear lubricant. No friction modifiers are needed.

If a Torsen (torque synchronous) limited slip type is what your inquiring about, a brand such as Castrol Hypoy C Gear oil (80W-90) works well. It is also API GL-5.

I use it in my OEM Torsen rear differential with excellent results.

Tammy,

Thank you for the response! From your profile it says you have the RX, which explains the Torsen differential, from my reading it looks like I do not have a limited slip on the LS.

Thank you again for your help.
