Default Fuel Consumption of LS400 Lexus

Hi - I'm new to the forums - I'm looking at buying an LS400 in the very near future.

They look like a great car - my only concern is the fuel consumption. I've heard that they get around 18MPG. Can anyone please give me an accurate indication of the fuel consumption figures that they get on average?

Many thanks!

Welcome to CL.

There are past threads discussing various MPG and such. Depending what year, rough average:

89-'94 17 city, 21 highway
95-97 18 city, 23 highway
98-00 18-19 city , 26 highway.

Each car will vary depending how driven and maintained....

My 1996 LS400 with 167k miles is getting 22.5 MPG with 50/50 highway/city driving. If I use the A/C alot, then it drops closer to 21. On the highway, if I keep it at 65 mph then I've seen 27+, but I'm typically cruising at 75-80 MPH. I'm slow off the starting line (soccer moms beat me all the time) but I don't drive like grandpa either. The thing I like about driving the LS is I feel so relaxed and enjoy cruising along. Every time I think about getting a newer model, I keep realizing I've got another 140k+ miles left on this one. Good luck with your purchase and trade off the reliability and comfort for higher MPG and you'll probably be ahead in overall costs with the LS.

On my 94, I get about 16 MPH on the street. If I drive ALL freeway, I get around 21 and sometimes upto 22! Its sad that I get so excited to hit 22. But city driving? Forget about it. I still love the car though.

Thanks very much for your responses.

I'm looking at 89 - 90 models, which sound like they chew a bit of gas around the city - but I'll mostly be doing highway driving so it should be ok.

I'll let you know how I go with buying one

Cheers!

I haven't really bothered to check actual consumption by calculating mileage accumulated and number of gallons pumped - BUT according to the mileage computer I average around 20mpg in my 1999 LS with 123k miles. This is all stop and go traffic to and from work where each trip is about 20 miles. I don't exactly have a light foot either. For this kind of car I'd say that's pretty damn good.
