Cheaper to own: LS400 vs. SC400
Hey guys,
I will likely be getting a 1996-1998 model of either an LS400 or SC400 soon. Can anybody give me some advice on which car costs less to own? I would like to consider the following things: routine maintenance, actual repairs, gas mileage (very important these days), and insurance. Which car is more reliable? Which car gets better gas mileage? Thanks in advance!!

Lots of variables to really say which way or another. You'll want to get a complete service history to give you a better idea.
I got the LS at 60K miles and it is now at 102K miles. Following the scheduled maintenance as written by Toyota: The timing belt was $1,115, complete fluids change about $125 and oil changes. I'll need to have my power steering pump rebuilt/replaced soon and that will be ~$500. Also upcoming: O2 bank 1 sensors at ~$250 and possible A/C maintenace when needed.
In all, I would say my LS hasn't been bad to maintain in the 3 years some odd I've had it.
