Question

Is there an aftermarket battery that is a direct replacement for the OEM (same or better amps and same physical size)? I will need one very soon and I am planing to get it again from the dealer. My OEM unit was low with water so I added distilled water a couple weeks ago. It was fine for a week but now I have to crank several times before I can get the engine running.

I would get it from the dealer just to be safe.If you go to local shop and try to find one,it might not be as good.

Default You pays your money and you takes your choice

I needed a new battery for my LS a while ago. The dealer price was utterly stupid - something roughly equivalent to $600. (I'm not kidding.)

Instead, I went to my local auto parts shop. I told them what model of car it for was for, and after consulting their catalogues, they sold me an equally well-specified one for around a tenth of that which works perfectly. Oh, one other thing, it came with a 4 year guarantee!

Still wanna get one from the dealers?

i've always found interstate batteries some of the best in the business. if you aren't too crazy about car audio and want a high quality battery, try one of those (about 70 dollars or so). if you are into car audio, look into an optima/stinger battery. hope this helps.

I'd look at the battery in your LS and noted the size, the positions of the post (Neg vs Pos) then go to Walmart look for a match and buy the most expensive one that they got (since the dealer cost you $600, you can spend $70 at Walmart) or Price Club, Sam Club even Pepboys sell battery

What do you mean 'crank several times before I can get the engine running'?
Did it crank slowly all those times?
If the cranking is not slow, the battery is not the problem.

Thanks VQT, it cranks very slow... I have been calling around and see that more local part places do carry a compatible battery ($60 - $100 range). The $100 one, interesting enough, have less cold cranking amps and warranty than the $60 one! This will be my third battery. Two/three years ago, I did call those same part stores and none of them carry a compatible battery.
