Default 95 LS400 Performance question

Hi all,

I have a '95 LS400 with 160,000km (100,000 miles) on it, which I'm very happy with - for an 11 year old car, it's amazingly smooth, quiet and solid feeling.

However, I keep on wondering whether the engine performance of my car is normal for this model, or if something is wrong: I've always felt that it doesn't really feel like a 4.0L V8 to drive. In full-throttle acceleration from a standing start, it doesn't really feel any different from my old 2.2L 4 cylinder Honda Prelude. In fact, I've driven a 2.4L Camry and a 1.3L Echo (Yaris) that felt far more responsive off the line! There's a steep hill near my house, and the car feels like it's really struggling to climb it.

How would other LS400 owners characterise their car's performance? Do you get an aggressive kick accelerating from 0, or does your car feel more stately like mine? Does it power up hills, or need a bit of help?

there isnt all too much power in the low end in the 95-97 cars so it is a little sluggish. going up hills should be no problem provided the tranny is in the right gear.

95 -97 are a little slugish of the line compared to the 98 and above.

add some seafoam and change the oil to a good synthetic like Motul 8100 e-xcess 0-40 which is what i use and love since i just changed my oil again today and got a massive increase in power again.

juss be aware that in stock form your stock UCF20 will never match the performance of a UCF21 car since it has the VVTi motor and the 5spd. the 0-100km/h time for ur car is around 7.7sec whereas skperformance and his UCF21 is around 6.3sec.
