Post Ls/400 Cluster Lighting

Hi, first time on this forum. I have a 93 LS 400 with 116.000 mi My eyse are tired reading all the info on the 400s. My instrument panel won't light up in the cold weather. It finally does when the interior of the car is warmed up. I have read so many threads about this and now am not sure who or where it can get fixed. The dealer tells me you have to buy a new one for $1500. Sounds a bit much. Does anyone know if this will stay the same or finally die completely. And I have read that you can buiy from toyota much less expensive than lexus. I need to replace timing belt, w/pump, struts , ball joints and don't know what else until it gets taken apart. Can someone give some guidence on theses topics. PS. What grade oil should be used, I have a little valve noise I beleive, I have been using castrol 5-30 Thanks, JP : :

yeah, i have the same problem with my 93 as well.
i figured out 45degrees. if its above that, the lights will turn on right away
if its 44degrees, it takes a minute or two to turn on, and it prgressively gets
longer to turn on the lower the outside temperature is.

i dont know why the temperature would play a role in my gauge lights working or not.

If its anything we discussed so much, its the cluster problem on the first gens. So many info can be found with the forum's search feature.

Thats what happens to mine. The colder it gets the longer it takes to come on.

yup,
common issue on the 93-94LS400's.
my 92 did not have this problem. It's a small electronic component that costs 80cents. just needs to be replaced !
do a search and you'll find all that info.
good luck.

Contact jimlwalker@sbcglobal.net about the illumination problem. He repairs the boards
and guarentees his work for a very reasonable fee.

New information: Have now found www.mrwizard.com who also does all cluster work including speedometer and tach for a reasonable price with guarantee. Check it out.
