Question

Does anyone know of possible reasons for slight squeeking/creaking noises emmanating from the front suspension area of this Mark 4 Sat.Nav 1998 LS400? Perhaps the springs/dampers need lubricating? It's not the front shock absorbers, as when the front is pushed up and down by hand, the oscillations are less than 3.

My 96 developed a creaking sound from the front at about 60k miles. It was/is under warranty and the dealer first replaced the both strut supports. Having the car on the rack with the tires drooping stopped the sound for about 1 day. I went back and they replaced the shock... problem solved Same thing happened to the other side about 3 months later and had the other shock replaced. It also developed a creaking from the brake caliper... after much conversation and after taking a tech for a ride and creating the condition while PARKED! they replaced the caliper.

Mines makes a noise that sqeaks as well, but when i gently tap on the brake, but not enough to slow the car down it goes away.

Anybody know where this sound it coming from?brake pads?,calilper?,ball joint?

Also when I have my heavy stereo box in the trunk the noise gets real load.It all tends to squeak some parts on the road depending on how level the road is.

Thanks to you all for your replies.

I still have about four months left of the Succession warranty, so just to be on the safe side, I'll take it into my dealer to check out the noise.

After all, a Lexus LS400 should not be making any noise which could be heard from inside of the car (should that apply for new cars or for 1998 models with nearly 60,000 miles on the clock?).

Naa, your Lexus should still ride and sound just like new. My 98 has 95,000 miles on it, and it still rides like butter and is just as quiet as new. Quieter actually because it has better tires now.

Oh god epk, thats an understatement!

The Lexus has 96K on it
The Explorer has 98K on it
And the Sequoia already has 14K

I've always driven the Lexus daily, and I work out of it usually so I'm always on the road. My lease was for 27,500 miles a year, which I was over when the company bought it. The Explorer we used to drive on family trips, and I use to drive on trips sometimes to save miles on the Lexus, or when going hunting etc. Now I drive the Sequoia mostly on business trips, unless I'm going with new customers etc then I drive the Lexus.
