Unhappy Help with LS400 Alarm?

Ok, wondering if you can help, I am new to the forum and trying to help out a friend.

He has a LS400 (90-92) and accidentally dropped the keys in the trunk when he was closing it. This is the ONLY set he has with the car. So, before I got there, someone tried to use a wire and pop the power trunk release. The alarm went off, and now the trunk power is disabled.

We had the door open and I disconnected the battery, he closed the doors and when I reconnected the battery, the doors locked! Now we are in a pickle. Will have to jimmy doors again, but how can I get power to the trunk power to open the trunk?

I left the battery disconnected tonight to try to let it reset. Is this good? Bad? What direction do I take next?

Thanks!
Tom

not positive, but you could check the fuses controlling the trunk latch but i doubt thats the problem. the LS doesnt have a "power" trunk persay but the latch itself is electrically controlled. best bet is probably to try a locksmith.

What does it take for the dealer to cut a new set of keys from the VIN?

yes, then it is NOT a cable operated latch, it is def an electrical latch. dealer will charge u an arm and a leg and will prolly want ur neck too if u dont have the keys, so ur best bet is probably a 3rdparty locksmith.

Cool

I dug up a locksmith in Racine, WI that has the key cutter for Lexus. He charges $150. The dealer can order one for him for $55, and +$12 for overnight service. The Rockford dealer was being rather difficult at first, but with the people who were trying to help all calling individually, they seemed to get the message this WAS an important person (which it is) to work WITH not against. They have become rather helpful now. I am a bit dissappointed for the initial response from them, I expected initial response to be better.

If anyone needs his number I have it. I got it from the Brookfield (milwaukee) Lexus dealer. He cuts keys for them when they need rapid service.
