Ideal Maint. Schedule 4 LS400
I'm not sure how many Forum readers have first generation (1990-1995) LS400 models. . .or if it really matters.
Could you recommend an "ideal" maintenance schedule? I've started one. . .see below. . .based on some information from a local independent who's been servicing Toyotas and Lexuses for years.
BTW. . .not to get into any unnecessary debates or controversies here. . .please assume the following, when commenting on an "ideal" schedule:
*Some owners (like me!) are not very mechanical. . .so they may be better off following a schedule so as to check in with a dealer (or independent, friend who "knows") to see if something needs to be maintained or replaced;
*T-Belt and W-Pump replacement based on #miles (or years) versus actual need (there is a separate thread on this topic. . .and both sides are represented. . .I'm one of those Japanese car and Lexus owners who has never had extraordinary luck with T-belts and W-pumps.)
Here's a "partial" list - please add or modify:
1. Timing belt replacement (70-80K or every 7 year)
2. Drain and refill using recommended coolant (30K or every 2 year)
3. Auto transmission fluids drain and refill (DEXRON II & III) (15K or 1 year) -OR-
auto transmission fluids drain and refill (TYPE T-IV) (15K or every 1 year)
4. Manual transmission fluids drain and refill (GL-5 type or 10W-30) (30K or every 2 year)
5. Brake hydraulic system fluids flush (1 quart) (30K or every 2 year)
6. Clutch hydraulic system fluids flush (1 quart) (30K or every 2 year)
7. Power steering system fluids flush (4 quarts) (30K or every 2 year)
8. Air intake throttle body clean (1/2 can) (15K or 1 year)
9. Differential fluids drain and refill (30K or every 2 year)
10. Front brake replacement (45K or every 3 year) -or- Rear brake replacement (60K or every 5 year)
11. Engine valves adjustment (60K or every 4 year)
12. Engine tune-up (60K or every 4 year)
Thank you in advance!

I would add flush & refill Power Steering Fluid to this list and do so every 30,000.
Nothing easier than a drain & refill of Tranny Fluid on a 400. It is easier than an oil change.
Take off bolt 1 quart comes out, put 1 quart back in the top. Do this often enough & you do not need an expensive flush.
I come across somehow as anti-maintenance when it comes to TB yet when I did mine I replaced more parts than most when the engine was in a disassembled state.
I drove mine to 168,000 & did the following maintenance when the fan bracket support bearing failed. Had most of these parts as a kit in my trunk.
I'm at 178,000 now & headed for 300,000 plus! This cost was $400 plus parts from a mechanic friend.

Thanks...
I was going to do the coolant flush and do the tranny fluid change, but its getting really cold out. So I might have my regular independent shop do it for me this time.
