Would anyone happen to know the steps involved in removing the stock steering wheel from a 1991 LS 400 in order to install a Nardi aftermarket steering wheel? I'm sure the airbag unit has to be removed first but I'm worried about it exploding on me.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I took my air bag out once. You need the special tool (star key) to remove screws that holds the air bag. The screws are cover by the plastic taps on the base of steering wheel. Just to be safe I disconnet the battery to prevent airbag from shorting out and deploying it.
