Default Smells like unburned fuel....

Hello all,

My question is everytime I park the car in the garage, I get this strong smell
of unburned fuel.

what could cause this?

I do have the check engine light on and when I checked the code it gave me
an EGR fault. Would this be the one causing it or is there something else?

I have a 1991 LS and I believe you also have a 1st Gen LS like mine (90-94 model). I have 264,000 miles on her now. Mine did the same thing because both of my catalytic converters were bad and very clogged. I mean, they're as old as the car, I should have figured out sooner. My check engine light is on too.

I just ordered two new catalytic converters from www.ecatalyticconverter.com for $200. I'm installing them this week. The "unburned fuel smell" should be gone, my gas mileage will increase, my car won't shake violently because of the clogged cats, and I'll be getting all that carbon monoxide out of my tailpipes instead of back through my engine and out. That's where the gas smell was coming from.

do you think replacing cats will be a hard job??? please update on time spent on this and any trouble removing. mine has 218000 im sure it will need this soon and i would rather do it sooner than later with the snow getting ready to fly... Thx in advance

Should be straight forward. The cats on my LS are just bolted on. It's a direct bolt-off bolt-on job. It's recommended you change your O2 sensors after installing new cats though. You don't HAVE to but it's strongly recommended.

Great..

Will look into getting those "CATS" replaced asap.
I wonder if buying one of those so called performance CATS give us any hp?

My car is a 90 model with 155+++ miles on it.

*** by the way, the cats on that link posted above are on SALE right now...
$114.08 per side.

Exactly, that's why I purchased them. I just got them in yesterday and I'm going to go put them on right now. Cheers.
