I'd put a nice chrome rack on my decklid. Since I have a sunroof and I get one for free by yankin it off my challenger

Instead of making a totally new thread, I searched and just thought I'd add to this one.
Got a roof rack for the LS this winter, use it for the board, and probably pick up a bike attachment for the summer. It's functional for me.
No pics of the ski attachments yet, plus it dirty anyways, and yes I know my winter wheels look like crap...

Got it from Canadian Tire (don't think they have those in the states)
But it's a Frontier sport rack as seen here.... http://www.sportrack.com/a21001s, with a Thule fairing
Would have preferred Thule or Yakima bars, but the price was right.
I'll probably get the factory Lexus Barracuda style bike attachment this summer....

How exactly does this roof rack work? Can you take it off? Does it damage the paint? Is it drilled into the roof?

There is essentially a hook shaped clip that goes between the door and roof and you tighten the lengths of the bars to hold it. There is a foot base with padding on the roof. Same concept as all thule and yakima roof rack designs.

Yes you can take it off. There is no drilling. There is really no damge, the only thing is it hugs in the door seal abit but I haven't see any ill effects.

Approximately how long does it take to take it on and off? I wouldn't leave this on the whole time, just for 3 months or so in the winter.. and how much did this cost you?

And there really is no damage whatsoever to the paint or doors? That's awesome!

taking it off if is quick.... putting it on takes longer cause you wanna adjust and position the bars correctly so the hooks fit in the door seam well, there are foam pads on the hooks to prevent paint chips.

So how long does it take to put on? Also, how much does it cost?

Can you take close up pictures of where it attaches to the door, both with the door closed and the door open?

Thanks!

Is the roof rack available in the states? Also is the "roof bike" rack the only style available? Appreciate the help.

You could check with a Canadian Lexus dealer and ask if the roof rack they sell for a GS will work on your LS. After all, Lexus dealers in many countries sold official Lexus logo roof racks for the LS400 and LS430 with all sorts of attachments for skis, bikes and kayaks.
