Default CD changer for '96 LS400

I want to install a stock cd changer in the glove box of my 96 LS400. The car is "pre-wired" for the cd changer as per the original window sticker. Also, there is a CD button on the stock (not the Nakamichi) stereo. But, there is no obvious wiring in the upper glove box. Is the wiring in there somewhere or do I need to get a wiring harness of some sort for this?

Unbelievable car, I've owned Toyotas for years, but this is my first Lexus, and boy do I love it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I have done this before on a 96.

Couple of questions. So you have a Pioneer oem head unit? Have you already located a oem CD Changer?? Pioneer made the unit used w both Nak & Pioneer head units but the NAK has a proprietary digital interface of some kind.

Do you have the mounting kit that comes with the changer?? Ebay vendors tend to sell the changer & leave you hangin for the surrounding cosmetic kit. It is a very expensive piece & will be a nasty surprise for your budget if it does not come w the changer.

Find poster/contributor named "Lexusaudio" here at the forum. He is a tremendous help & usually has all the parts you need or knows where to find them. His name is Gus Mancy. I can't heap enough praise on him. If you search his post you will also notice that he is not just limited to LS400 Audio Knowledge.

He is still active here.

Old directions I found:

"You've got to completely remove the lower glovebox assy, then the upper
glovebox door, then the upper glovebox liner.

There's a 10-mm nut on the rightmost edge of the dash trim. You'll need the
passenger door open to get to this. Memory is it's about knee-high. Now take
everything out of the main glove compartment. Note in the back that there's
a small pop-out "door" rectangular, about 1 x 1½ inch. Behind this is
another 10-mmm nut that has to come out.

From here it's fairly obvious which screws have to come out. The upper
glovebox door has to come off, but you first have to remove the lower
glovebox completely to get at the screws. Also the upper door has a damper
assy on the left side and a guide rod on the right. Both can be removed with
a knife blade to pop off the triangular-shaped covers. Finally the upper
glovebox liner comes out. Then you'll be able to see & reach the bolts
holding the CD changer in place".

Good Luck!

I just bought a used OEM Pioneer CD changer off ebay for $40. I was planning on going a different route, but the price seemed right. Anyways, my car is a 96' LS and it has the CD button on the head unit so I'm assuming it's pre-wired for the CD player.

Does anyone have more detailed instructions on how to install this? I've added some pics of the CD changer. Did I buy the in dash unit or is this the trunk mounted unit?

Any help would be appreciated.

You don't have the cosmetic kit.

You seriously need more info than the detailed post above??

YES. Since the detailed post above assumes that the person has the in dash CD player and therefore gives instructions for the in dash installation. Since I'm unsure of which model I have, I asked the question.
