92 LS400 with 47,000 Original Miles!!!!!!!
Did I make a mistake here. I bought a 1992 LS400 Pearl White/Tan Interior with 28,000 miles on it September 2002. I paid $14,000 for it from the original owner.
Here it is September 2005 car has 47,000 miles on it. A solid 9 out of 10. Selling to my
secretaires husband for $8000.00. I feel like I am making a mistake here. What do you
think. Dealers will only give me $5000-$6000 on trade in.
I have several cars- 99 Mercedes S420, 2001 Infiniti Qx4, 1991 Cadillac Allante, 1980 Corvette and a Sebring/Sterling Kit car. It is not like I am pressed for room. Yea right.
So, what are you thoughts on the $8000.00 asking price. All maintenance done by the
local Benz/Bentlely dealer and everyting works perfect.
Thanks,
Tully Lee

You paid too much that's why you are asking for too much. Agreed the miles were low, and the car may be pristine, but it is still a old car. This is one of those gotta have things. Is someone is dying for a Gen 1 then it's good, otherwise the car is overpriced.

If you re-read the original post, the seller bought the car in 2002 for $14K w/ 28,000 miles. I bought a 1994 GS300 in 2002 with 59K miles for $15K, which was slightly below blue book at the time.
I think the selling price of $8K was pretty fair for all concerned. Even with lower mileage, older cars need maintenance.

It'd be interesting to know what's the story behind this car's extremely low mileage? I'm talking about the 28k of driving in 10 years! Was the previous owner and elderly, or out of country for long periods, or had other cars??? Share it w/ us if you don't mind Also, if it's possible for you, post some pictures from exterior and interior... this has got to be a must see!!

Here is the deal...
The 1992 LS400 was driven couple of thousand miles each year. The original owner was a car nut and had nearly a dozen cars. He had all his cars serviced at the local Benz/Bentley
dealer. He was a "mini Jay Leno" if you will with deep pockets.
I am very particular about cars. I was willing to spend a little more for a low miles
car that in my opinion was as near perfect as you could get.
Even today there is not one scratch, ding or dent. We are talking laser straight with
a paint shine that garners compliments each and every day. Car is as new. I only gave it a 9 out of 10 because we are talking about a 13 year old car.
Even today I get on autotrader. com and all I see are a bunch of 1992 LS400 with 100,000 to 200,000 asking $8-$11,000.
So, at the time of purchase I had options of 100K miles over or a 28,000 mile car. What would
you have chosen? Not one problem the whole time of ownership.
I will say this, I have had the option to buy a used LS430 but optioned for the Mercedes S420.
Not saying bad things about the LS430. It just felt felt generic. By far, the 1992 LS400 felt like a much better build. Hell, it even drives better than my S420.
I am making the deal today to my secretaires husband for $8000.00. I feel good that he will
get a very nice example of a generation one car. Besides, 90% of America does not know it is a 1992. Most think it is new. Just me and my car freaks (who are the best) really know.
Thanks for your input. Maybe $8000.00 is not too bad afterall.

Armyofone, maybe this is a good buy for you? Sounds like a needle in a haystack! Or have you already found your LS?

no, i want a gen II. i dont care much for the first gens. the interior was wayy too much like the ES250. lol. i want somethinga little more modern. No offense to the seller, im sure its a beatiful car.but when i buy a 95-97 LS4, it will be the last car i own for AWILE.
and even in 2002, i dont think that was was worth 14k, but maybe...i wasnt around lexus in 02.

Update
I sold the car last night. I was mistaken. The car was bought in Sept. 2001. I knew at the time that I was paying about $1000 more than I should as it was booking out at $13,000 at the time.
None the less, someone is getting a very nice car. The 92 LS400 cannot in any for for fashion be compared with an ES250. Nothing is the same. The car is complete different car. Remember, Lexus put all their $ into the venture and money was not spared. Some say that the earlier first and second gernation LS400 are the best because money was not an object. As the car got more popular we all know that companies start to cut corners. Just my opion.
Thanks for all your input.

1992 Ls400----
Car was driven and taken car of as it should have been. I am very sad the car is sold.
I would love to get a SC430. However, not looking to drop $35,000 minimum. The Lexus
brand really sold me.
My wife had a RX300. Not impressed. Bought an Infiniti QX4. Much better vehicle.
More truck like unlike the car like qualities of the RX300.
What are your thoughts on the SC300 and SC400- are they kind of considered
dated?
Thanks,
Tully Lee
* After all these years the 1992 LS400 was so tight and rattle free. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
