I noticed something weird the other day on my 2000 LS400, when I used my key to unlock the doors

Driver's door: to LOCK, I turn LEFT and to UNLOCK I turn RIGHT
Passengers doos: to LOCK, I turn RIGHT and to UNLOCK I turn LEFT

Now this is totally opposite of one another, is there something I am missing. It looks like the passenger side is correct in my opinion. Tell me what you guys think

Whatever about it being "right" or "wrong", it's certainly symmetrical...

Yes I agree, the passenger side seems more natrual. If you keep holding it on the drivers side, the windows power down, and up if you lock and hold.

I dont really use the keyhole much.

Just an FYI...what my experience was. The electronics in that key cylinder aren't super robust. When I got mine I used the key because I didn't like the bulk of the fob. After about 2 years, one day, I locked the door with the master switch and it started locking and unlocking by itself...maybe about 4 times. Little by little this occurred more frequently until one day, it kept doing it for like 20 cycles.

I had the driver side key cylinder replaced at $477 and had a look at the thing afterwards. The mechanical aspects are great but the electronic switch behind the cylinder had worn contacts. This led to it shorting and thus the open close problems. (I probably could have just had the switch replaced but it was an unknown so they ordered the whole assembly.)

As for the locking...you'll get used to it.
