Well, sort of.

My fuel gauge worked only when full and empty. About 70 miles after a fill-up and about 70 miles before the FUEL LIGHT comes on, the fuel gauge goes wherever it wants in between.

After eliminating the possibility of the problem being at the gauge cluster, I decided to check the fuel sender. I waited until my fuel level was close to empty and then pulled out the fuel sender gauge. Upon pulling the unit out, I noticed the orange "container" had some fuel in it, but drained out when I pulled the unit out. I tested the fuel sender unit with a meter and found it to be perfect. I re-installed the fuel sender gauge unit and went to get a fill-up.

The fuel gauge worked properly for about 150 miles now, except when I make right turns and when I accelerate. When I make right turns and during acceleration, the fuel gauge goes down (sometimes down to half or more) and takes up to 5 minutes to resettle at the proper level.

What are other things that I can look at to cure the problem?

the sender is bad it would seem, it can bench test perfect, but still have problems. if messing with it helped the problem, it obviously is where it is coming from.

I've never seen it. I think it's yellow/amber tho same color as the TRAC and O/D lights.

To fix the problem of the rapid changing fuel gauge. Well, there should been 2 bars within the sender, one with a sensor on one end, the other holds in place to adjust for change in inclination, and turns, to avoid exactly what your saying.

Therefore, I’m guessing you didn’t install the fuel sender if it works the same way my 98's does.

Give it another try, and try and seat it properly.
