A CD changer was never standard during the entire 11 year run of the LS400.

My next door neighbor purchased his LS400 without a CD changer in fall 1989. I purchased mine without a CD changer in the spring of 1990. A CD changer was a $1,000 option in 1990 and I didn't think it was worth it when the sticker price of my new 90 LS was only about $36,000 and I paid much less than that. A lot of people did not buy the CD changer because it was mounted in the trunk.

Installation of a CD changer in the early LS requires changing the head unit. The current owner of my 90 LS connects a portable CD player by plugging an adapter into the cassette deck.

yeah hrmmm..... I guess a new alpine headunit is in order, I just hate the look of aftermarket equipment in a luxury vehicle

I did replace the blown 8" woofer today, sounds much much better that 15 year old woofer i pulled out crumbled in my hands

It is unclear to me from your post as to whether or not your head unit has a cd control button.

It is my understanding that all LS models had the wiring necessary for a cd changer.

With the help of forum member "lexusaudio", I was able to put a cd changer in my mothers 96 LS (Glove box in that year).

This guy is a wealth of Audio info for all Lexus models & can help you get the parts you need at great prices. Great to deal with as well.

Here is an email he left on another 6/28 post here at CL:
