Exactly my point. As gas prices get more and more expensive, and as they are NOT related to engine performance and gas mileage, the percentage difference in price between 87 and 93 octane gets reduced. 87 octane provides less fueal economy versus 93 octane. Therefore, it is actually more cost-effective (cheaper) to purchase the 93 octane!!!!

I think that enough feel that using the less pricey gas is sufficient becuse it allows the to drive the car. In the overall expense, the reduced performance and miles per gallon doesnt work out as a savings. At $.20/gallon difference, it is a minimal savings to try and achieve. This leads to the threads on getting the most MPG possible.

Here in Florida, I can buy 91 octane at the Citgo pump, and 93 octane. The 91 is 5 cents cheaper, and is a good alternative, if I end up at Citgo. Otherwise I use straight 93.

Damn $2.63 is cheap. You guys are lucky, gas is getting more expensive here every week. I think it has gone high as $3.79 a gallon for premium. Still not as bad as Europe or Asia, but still hella expensive if you gotta put 22 gallons to fill your tank

Water Injection is the answer
Add a simple water injection system and you can run regular gas with the same mileage and performance as premium. The w/w reservoir on our LS is so large that I only have to top it off every other fuel fill.
Regular gas in the LS400 = retarded timing and sluggish acceleration. Won't hurt anything but the car will be significantly less responsive.
Water injection + regular gas = octane equivalency very close to premium gas. The car responds just as it would with premium fuel.
Water injection + premium = extra fun. The engine management system gives you max-timing advance and you can clearly feel the difference in acceleration.
Water injection also leaves the sparkplugs (I use NGK iridium) looking like new.

chevron 91, 'cause I can't get 93 (any brand) here in AZ. The 20 cent difference is minimal. Performance (have a LX) is noticeably better w/ 91 over 87. Can't say about fuel economy yet since I'm only on my second tank. But higher resistance to detonation means the valves can allow in more air for a higher compression ratio (= more power per engine cycle?). Going uphill, it's definitely noticeable. Car just starts and climbs effortlessly w/ 91, but struggles on 87 (ie, no faster off the line than my 86 4runner w/ 116 hp 4-cyl w/ modified exhaust/cam, advanced timing, 250 lbs of body armor, lift). It doesn't ping on 87, but power is very lacking.The way I look at it, if one can afford to drive such an expensive car, one shouldn't worry about a few bucks extra for a tank of premium!

Nothing but Shell 93 since I bought my 95 LS 400 six weeks ago. Previous original owner has followed factory maintenance (by dealer only) since new and used only 91 or 93 and car runs flawlessly. Not taking any chances. If it's worked for 11 years and 70k, why change now.

TYPE oF GAS?
i was just wondering what type of gas all of you guys use? is it necessary to fill it with supreme? since gas prices are so high, i was wondering if woudl be harmful at all to put plus or regular in the car
