I heard them on a SC400 and they were quite and deep in tone.

I miss that V8 rumble.

Most mufflers you put on that engine any any point all sound similar. I know because I had about 4 different exhaust configurations on my old LS (for fun). You won't get any significant performance out of replacing the muffler, maybe .5MPG if the old mufflers are clogged/blown. Maybe a little more if you do something proper, but it could get costly.

I'll just chime in to say any exhaust sounds good on that car, but the engine has a "drone" around 1500-2500 RPM.

JBrady has said a lot about this topic, particularly the performance side of it. Search around for some of his posts in the LS forums.

Hey, i put two magnaflow 14829's on my 91' lex, to say the LEAST it sounds absolutely exhilarating! The tone is amazing and it just sounds soooo smoooooooth. Then again i replaced the pipes from the cats back with 2.25", two highflow bullet style resonators, and an x-pipe, so that might be more than your aiming for. But anything sounds good on these cars really, even if you just unbolt the last two mufflers.

heres a vid of my car a long time back......setup may be too loud and raspy for the average LS owner and you may say that about the exterior as well. But thats just my taste.

drive normal = deep
go around 4-5 rpm= raspy loud

lets see if the link still works

as far as unbolting the mufflers, is it that easy?, i've never looked up under there. do you just unbolt some clamps........i just want to do it to see what it would sound like, but i don't want to alter the look of the exhaust

is it possible to just unbolt them and leave them in the stock location, that way the pipes aren't running into the mufflers they would just be sitting there, but not connected to the exhaust, if that makes any sense

What you can do:

You can unbolt the mufflers and just take them off and drive like that

What you can not do:

You cannot unbolt the mufflers and just leave them unbolted, the way they are held up is partially by those bolts and some rubber rings at the front. You undo the bolts and not take off the muffler they will hang to the ground only being connected to the car by those rubber rings.

If you take off the mufflers and leave it like that the tone will deffidentally improve and it will sound nice, however sense the fumes come out well before the bumper noise level in the cabin will be irritably loud. It was lounder like that in my cabin than after i had my whole new exhaust system put on.
