Question

I have recently purchased a very nice 1994 ES 400. A few questions:
1. any preferences on motor oil and filters?
2. wiper blades-OEM or off the shelf?
3. has Lexus phone with steering wheel activation, shuts off Nakamichi sound, etc. Do I need the
dealer to activate, or can any carphone/cellular carrier do this? I
use the phone in my car more than I use a cell phone....
4. brakes-dealer only, or do independents work on Lexus brakes
as well as the dealer?
5. When cold, groaning sound from right front whell area with sharp left turning (as in leaving the parking garage). This completely disappeared when car was warmed up. Topped up PS fluid reservoir (was a little low) and it seems better. Is this a warning of some other problem on the way?

Thanks in advance- Jay Shannon

Welcome to ClubLexus!
Do you mean your car is a LS400 or ES300?

1. There is plenty of talk on what filter and oil to use in the maintanance forum.
2. I go with aftermarket because their better and it won't cost you a $100!!!!
3. I don't have the Lexus phone so I can't help you here.
4. You can do the brakes yourself but you can take it outside to do because the dealer will charge you an arm and a leg for the same service.
5. Do you have air suspensions or reg shocks and struts?
If you have air suspensions, then it could be it giving out or just letting the oil inside mix. The oil tends to settle to the bottom when parked.
