How many hours?
Hi, How many labor hours should I expect to pay for front shock and mount replacement on my 98 LS? I was thinking about getting the parts from Park Place in Plano TX. Has anyone bought from these guys? Thanks

Despite scolding the 24 people (some of those are you btw and not everybody lives in Texas or has bought from Park Place ) I'd recommend getting prices from Sewell Lexus also near you www.lexus-parts.com as we get a ClubLexus discount and you can probably just pick up (I think... I'm not from Texas and can't be sure on the logistics). Carson Toyota would also be a good place to check www.l-tunedparts.com and if you don't see it on the site, check their contact page for the phone number and just call.
I don't know on the hours, but if you call the dealer they'll tell you what the book says. We have another CL vendor that does great work in the DFW area (JPI) if you want to save some money and get a Lexus-trained tech.

Sorry for the scolding, had a bad day. Thanks for the links. I don't live in the DFW area, I just found the Park Place site by looking around. They seem to have decent pricing and free ground shipping. Thanks

Majkmil,
No problemo Sorry didn't notice your location - if you're also looking for an independent shop in MA, might want to post in the NE Regional forum; somebody might have some suggestions for you that could be less expensive.

Thanks everyone, My choice seems to be between OEM or KYB (GR2), I want the soft stock ride and am getting mixed signals about the KYB's. I'm leaning towards the OEM shocks from Park Place ($56.57) but the mounts are $80. At tire rack the KYB mounts are around $50. Should I stick with oem all around or are the KYB mounts as good as stock? Both have free shipping over $50. Any comments about these products would be great. BTW my LS is a 98 with 56K, It really shouldn't need struts this early but the previous owner must have hit a nasty pothole or something because it loose on the right side and two shops say everything else looks good in the front suspension. I had struts and mounts done on a 98 camry and oh what a difference, felt like new. Hoping for the same outcome with my LS Thanks majkmil

I have Bilsteins and if you don't mind the cost, these are very nice units to install. You also have the option of using a lower perch setting with the stock springs for a 1/2" drop if you choose. Rides qualities will be slightly firmer but it will not be that obvious. The car will also feel better at highway speeds. Cost for all four corners will be about $450 shipped.
You won't know the extent of wear/compression on your insulators till you disasseble the strut. Mine had 70K miles and I went ahead and reused them as they were still firm and pliable with no cracks. The stock struts in mine were pretty dead though, I compressed one and it didn't extend back. Depending what roads your car has seen, they could be dead or go beyond 100K miles. YMMV.
