Default check engine light/ Egr valve.

I am new to owning a Lexus and have never made a post on any forum/ club site before Mainly because my other car (BMW M3), the people on the various sites are stupid and know nothing and can't help. Any way I had the code checked and it came up as egr valve. My Lexus dealer said they have never sold the egr valve and said they sell the the egr moduale? Does any one know which part it is or had a similiar problem. Thanks, 1991 LS400.

There is an EGR valve and they do go but not to often, it is the hose that breaks from heat. The EGR vacuum modulator do go all the time. To check it do the following, it is on drivers side near valve cover has black disc and 3 hoses going to it. 1 hose at front and 2 at back, take top of there is a filter in it clean it with air only put back. Take off hose and mark them do not mix them up. Put a hose on the single front one, block the 2 other ports with your finger and blow air into the valve If air does not go through it replace it.Second repeat above but start engine rev to 2500 rpm, this time no air should pass through it if it does replace it.A lot of times the EGR valve electrical connection needs to be re seated, it is beside the single hose coming out of EGR valve:
