Default Quick Question - Wheels Tilting back.

Hey all,

My LS is now having 155K and it is still running so smooth, loving every min. driving it. I do not have anything to be concerned about on the Lexus, however I have another car it is a 95' Volvo 960 Wagon with 118K (I'm using this car to transport my dogs) I just bought the car not too long ago and having a little problem with it. I do not know where to turn myself into, you guys poped out first because you all know so much about cars so if you dont mind helping me out a bit.

The problem that I'm having with my Volvo is that when I apply the brakes (moderate to hard) the front wheels seem to move to the back a little. It is noticable and I can also feel it through the steering wheel. I had the control arm bushings and balljoints replace (both sides), They were bad and I was told by the mechanic that getting these parts replaced should fix it but it did not. And now the mechanic said that it maybe the nature of the car to do that. I disagree with that but do not know what else to do. I know this is a Lexus forum and I know I should not be putting a thread regarding something else that is not really Lexus related but I have been reading things on here a lot to know that many of you know so much about cars. So please help me out if you guys dont mind.

Hi LexieLS,

I have a 96 850 wagon as well.
Even though I'm not expereincing the problem you're having right now.
But my guess would be your front spring seat.

I fix a lot of Volvos - used to own them too until I found out about Lexus....
If the front end is like the 940 and 740, it will have a reaction rod strut that angles back to the frame. Within the end that attaches to the lower control arm are two bushings which disintegrate. If the shop didn't replace them, that's where the problem is. They are cheap and easy to install, and will make a huge difference. Have the car aligned afterwards too.

Thank you for your replies SRK and TRD-bB,

First I took a look at the link you provided me, I think that is for 850 and S/V/C 70 series rather than my 960. SRK, what you have mentioned really make sense on the part that something is still broken. However, I'm not really a mechanic and I still dont quite get which parts exactly that need to be replaced. If you dont mind, would you help me with maybe explain a little more to me so that I can explain it to the mechanic and what parts exactly that I need to look into.

You'll have to get under the car to identify the reaction rod, you can see it if you turn the front wheels hard right, and look in the left hand wheel well. It is a bar that attaches to the outer end of the lower control arm, and then angles back to a bracket under the drivers floor, about where the gas pedal is. The bushings at the front end of the rod, in the control arm, are worn. They can't be seen unless the arm is removed. That's about all I can do from here. Good luck.
