Default How to get back that door "THUD".

All right boys and gals, I have an issue with my 98LS. First, the drivers door does not close like it should, I mean I have to re-open and close it twice sometimes to get it to completely shut. I think its something in the lock hinge, but I just don’t know what it is.

Plus the drivers door does not sound like rear doors for example when they seal shut without any extra pressure needed unlike the front driver side (guessing because its the mostly used and abused door).

What can I change, modify to get it to seal shut the first time without having to add a lot of pressure... I feel like something is holding it back. I can get my other doors to close no problem, except for the driver’s side.

Oh yeah, if I mess around with the locking mechanism a little bit, its fixed temporarily and goes right back, any help is appreciated guys.

Thanks

The foam seal around the door is compressing and that is enough to alter the sound of the door. As well, some models have a little phenolic/plastic wear piece in the latch mechanism that hits the striker...changing both should improve it. Other things...window roller guides, hinge...you may be able to adjust them to some extent but returning to the original tight sounding door may not be possible within reason. It is wear.

My driver door sounds difefrent than allt he others too.

Makes sense, but how about my door needing a little too much pressure to close? Everytime i close it, it doesnt get fully closed, and i have to do it again. Is it the locking mechanism?

Sounds like the door is out of alignment or the striker plate that catches the door. Might be so minor that you can't even see it but it would affect it not closing correctly IMO.

Next time you close the door slightly lift up on it (if you can) and see if it closes easier with a tighter seal.
Also, your rubber seal gasket might be no good as he mentioned.
